Fun Kid Snack Ideas:
Quick and Easy Snack Recipes for Children

Let's face it, your harshest food critics are your kids... and fun kid snack ideas are sometimes hard to come by. Don't despair... they ARE out there! It just takes a little imagination to turn the simplest foods into something that even the finickiest eater will enjoy.

The other real key to getting kids to eat the things that are good for them and making food fun is to get them to help you in the kitchen. Using knives may be out of the question, but playing with dough, rolling it out, or smearing sauce around can go a long way to making food as much fun to make as it is to eat-- which is why these quick and easy snack ideas for children are just perfect.

The fun recipes for kids snacks here are great! But another great healthy snack for kids is yogurt fruit dip!

Mini Kiddie Pizza Snack Recipe

Mini Pizzas for a Fun Kid Snack or Meal
An example of a fun kid snack idea that kids can help make is a quick-bake pizza that's covered in veggies. By letting the kids choose the veggies it's a win-win situation!

This quick and easy snack (or meal!) for children is also really easy to let the kids help out with. You do the chopping and the baking, but they get to do the assembling... and that's the fun part!

Makes about 8 mini pizzas-- a fun kid snack idea if they want just one, or a whole meal if they want two or three.

Ingredients:
1 c. prepared pizza sauce
10 ounce package pizza crust (pre cooked)
1 c. chopped vegetables (kids' choice)
1 c. cooked meat, cubed (your choice)
shredded mozzarella cheese

Directions: Using a floured glass or a biscuit cutter, cut your pizza dough into rounds. Place on a greased or parchment covered cookie sheet.

Have your child spread the sauce over the pizza rounds so that it reaches to 1/4 inch of the edge.

Now they can decorate the top playfully (hey, make a smiling face).

Pop this in the oven and bake according to the instructions on your pizza dough (it may take a bit less time for small rounds).

Fun Variations: If you don't have pizza crust, you can use bread slices or even bagels instead. And remember that, as far as fun kid snack ideas go, pizza is one with hundreds of variations. Instead of tomato sauce, for example, perhaps use pesto or a white sauce. Make a Hawaiian pizza using ham, cherries and pineapple. The possibilities are as endless as your child's imagination!

More Quick and Easy Snack Ideas for Children

Of course, you don't always have time to put together a whole healthy snack at home. Even the most fun kid snack ideas often need to be portable... because, let's face it, we are all on the move!

One of My Favorites! Need a quick and easy snack for kids on the move? When my children were small, we would make something we called "bird seed." To make it, combine oat cereal O's (you know, Cheerios), mini-pretzels, candy coated chocolates (like M&M's), rice cereal squares, and raisins. The proportions weren't important; it was all dumped into a large zip lock bag, thrown into a tote bag and carried along with us on road trips. It was a good inexpensive and munchy snack.

Creating fun kid snack ideas are all about being creative. They are about letting your inner child run rampant through the kitchen. And isn't it fun to let that kid out to play?
