Light and Creamy Crab Dip with French Fried Onions
This dip uses sour cream to create a lighter texture than some of the other cream cheese crab dips you've tried before. With a bit of garlic, some salty fried onions, and a touch of cheddar cheese, this quick crab dip recipe plays up the salty flavors that work so well with crab meat.
3/4 pound fresh crab meat, drained and picked over for shells
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup low-fat mayonnaise
2/3 cup sour cream
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced or pressed
2 green onions, chopped
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 C. shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Hot sauce, to taste
6 ounces fried onion pieces
Directions: 1. Preheat your oven to 350?F. Lightly grease a 2 quart glass baking dish.
2. In a large bowl, mix together the cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, lemon juice, garlic, onions, Worcestershire sauce, dry mustard, and half the cheddar cheese. Combine until evenly distributed.
3. Fold in the crab meat and hot sauce. Pour mixture into prepared baking dish and top with remaining cheese. Sprinkle lightly with paprika.
4. Bake for 20 minutes and then add fried onion pieces to top. Bake an additional 10 minutes or until lightly browned and the dip is warmed through.
