Spicy Shrimp Salad in Puff Pastry Shells
A tiny dash of cayenne and a touch of Tabasco liven up this spicy recipe for shrimp salad-- these flavors really set it apart from your average seafood dish! The combination of the creamy, tangy sauce, the shrimp, and the crunch of green onions and celery is perfection.
This recipe for shrimp salad is served in pre-made pastry appetizer cups, but you can also serve it on crackers or in little tartlet shells.
2 pounds small shrimp, cleaned and cooked
5 green onions, minced
1/4 cup cilantro, chopped fine
1/4 cup celery, chopped fine
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon white sugar
1 tablespoon whole grain mustard
2 teaspoons hot sauce (like Tabasco)
1/2 teaspoon cayenne
Salt and white pepper, to taste
12 small pastry appetizer shells, pre-cooked and cooled
Directions: In a large bowl, toss together the shrimp, celery, green onions and cilantro.
In a small bowl, whisk to combine mayonnaise, cream, lime juice, sugar, mustard, hot sauce and cayenne. Use salt and white pepper to adjust seasoning.
Pour dressing over shrimp and toss gently until coated. Chill for 1 hour.
Fill pastry shells with shrimp salad, and serve immediately.
